“Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.”
—— A Chinese Proverb
I started my professional training in Chinese language and culture in China twelve years ago. In 2009, I moved from China to the U.S. and began to study as a graduate student in the Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Now I have been teaching Chinese as a teaching assistant at the university level for three years, and I have been instructing a diverse group of university students at all levels.
In addition to my regular classroom teaching experience, in 2010 I also taught the Introduction to Chinese Language & Culture – Level 1 course at Anderson Language Technology Center. From 2010 to 2011, I have been teaching Chinese at Bohua Chinese School. Other valuable experiences include my time as a Speaker at the Sixth Annual IB ARMS MYP Student Summit, Presenter at the Boulder Valley School District, Test Assistant for Test of Proficiency-Huayu, and Lead of the Foreign Language Technology Program.
I love Chinese language and culture and I love teaching Chinese language and culture. After three years of professional teaching experience, I am pleased to see how much I have learned. Teaching Chinese at multiple levels, participating as a regular classroom teacher, teaching cultures, and taking on multiple professional roles have provided me with many skills that I will bring to my teaching in the future.
